DEEP awards $129K in forestry grants

The Department of Energy & Environmental Protection awarded $129,093 through 15 grants to encourage tree planting and tree management throughout the state.

The grants are meant to improve the scenic beauty of healthy of the eco-systems in Connecticut, said DEEP Commissioner Rob Klee.

The grants were awarded to Bridgeport, Farmington, Essex, Hartford, Glastonbury, New Britain, North Canaan, Norwalk, Ridgefield, Stratford, Waterford, West Haven, as well as one statewide grant for the Tree Wardens Association.

DEEP also designated 19 communities as Tree City USA for their commitment to tree care in the past year: Branford, Bridgeport, Brookfield, Danbury, East Hartford, Fairfield, Groton, Hartford, Middletown, Monroe, New Canaan, New Haven, Norwalk, Ridgefield, Southbury, Stamford, West Haven, Wethersfield, and Wilton.
