Deal uncertain as CT budget debate resumes

The battle over Connecticut’s budget will continue this week.

Today, Democrats plan to draw attention to the Republican governor’s proposed reductions to the state’s Healthy Food Program, which provides nutritional meal choices to children in 114 school districts.

Democrats, who are pushing for higher income taxes on wealthier residents to help cover the two-year, $8.56 billion deficit, have been holding such events for weeks.

Republican Gov. M. Jodi Rell maintains that the Democrats need to cut more spending and that their tax increase proposals will hurt all families.

It’s unclear whether a budget deal will be reached by the end of the month. Lawmakers have reserved Thursday and Friday for a possible special session. (AP)
