DCP, cops tag eight liquor stores in compliance checks

Eight package stores in Vernon may face penalties following compliance checks by the state Department of Consumer Protection and Vernon police officers, DCP announced.

Of 16 stories visited by a trained 17-year-old buyer, eight sold alcohol to the minor, according to DCP.

“Fifty percent compliance is really disappointing and should be seen as a wake-up call for permit holders to be more vigilant,” DCP Commissioner William Rubenstein said in a statement.

The eight stores, which face the potential for license suspensions and other penalties, are Riley’s Liquor, On the Way Convenience Store, 7-Eleven Food Store, CV Mart, Lafayette Wine & Liquors, Vernon Circle, Harry’s Fine Wine & Liquor and Rockville Discount Liquor.
