Day Kimball Healthcare has received a $158,000 gift from the estate of long-time supporters of the hospital.
Day Kimball announced that the money was bequeathed to the Woman’s Board of Day Kimball Hospital and to Hospice and Palliative Care of Northeastern Connecticut. The gift is from the estate of Ted and Ginny Gellert of Pomfret and will support the hospital and its health system programs.
Day Kimball is a nonprofit community hospital and healthcare system serving northeast Connecticut and neighboring Massachusetts and Rhode Island communities.
Day Kimball Healthcare said the Gellerts have long been active in the community.
“It was well over 40 years ago when Ted and Ginny indicated their desire to make a planned gift that would benefit Day Kimball Healthcare and its programs,” said Day Kimball Healthcare Director of Development Kristen Willis in a statement. “As consistent annual donors, they wanted to create a legacy to support programs they felt focused on the health and welfare of their family, friends, and neighbors.”
Ginny Gellert died in 2005 while her husband passed away in 2017. Funds were set aside by the couple in the 1980s and invested in stocks.
The Gellerts were active in the Abington community. Abington is located within Pomfret. In addition, Ginny Gellert was a member of the Day Kimball Hospital Woman’s board for more than three decades.
