David’s Bridal plans layoffs; impact on CT stores unclear

David’s Bridal, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy earlier this month, may close all of its stores including its three locations in Connecticut, according to a notice filed with the state Department of Labor.

David’s Bridal, which sells wedding dresses, prom gowns and other formal wear, has stores in Manchester, Orange and Danbury.

According to a filing under the WARN Act, the closings and layoffs will “likely occur” at all David’s Bridal locations. However, the company said it was uncertain whether it would cease operations entirely or only close certain locations.

Corporate employees are being laid off in three phases, starting last Friday. Others will be laid off between May 13 and May 27, and between June 12 and Aug. 11, the company said.

Distribution center employees are expected to be laid off between June 12 and June 26, according to the filing. Field and store employees are expected to be laid off between June 12 and Aug. 11.

David’s Bridal said it was evaluating strategic options, including a possible sale of the company and its assets. It employs about 10,000 people, many of whom work part-time.
