Pennsylvania-based David’s Bridal filed a layoff notice with the state’s Department of Labor on Monday.
The bridal shop has three locations in Connecticut: Manchester, Danbury and Orange. The filing comes as David’s Bridal files a second bankruptcy action.
The notice, under the state’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining (WARN) law, does not state how many employees will be affected nor if the company might close.
The stores will remain open and continue operations as normal, according to the notice. The company’s Pearl and Diamond loyalty programs will also remain accessible and it will continue to honor gift cards, returns and exchanges.
According to a press release, the company is also seeking “first day” relief from the court to allow for authorization to continue to pay employee wages, maintain certain programs, and honor obligations to vendors.
“Our business continues to be challenged by the post-COVID environment and uncertain economic conditions, leading us to take this step to identify a buyer who can continue to operate our business going forward,” said Chief Executive Officer James Marcum.
The notice stated that the company is evaluating strategic options, “including a sale as a going concern, a sale of certain assets and intellectual property or a potential winddown of some or all of the business and a resulting limited or company-wide reduction in force and job elimination of employees within the state.”
David’s Bridal outlined a schedule during which the expected mass layoff or employee terminations would occur.
The timeline is subject to change based on the company’s assessment of its options.
“The layoffs are expected to be permanent, although new opportunities may become available depending on the outcome of the company’s sale efforts,” Andrea Dauphinee, senior vice president of human resources, stated in the notice.
