Darien bioscience firm nabs $500K grant

A Darien wearable health technology company developing a device to detect heart rhythm problems will receive a $500,000 grant through Connecticut Innovations, two Fairfield County legislators announced in a news release Friday.

Mobile Sense Technologies Inc. is focused on developing the first clinical grade, off-the chest continuous electrocardiogram (ECG) device to monitor and detect cardiac arrhythmias, state Sens. Bob Duff (D-Norwalk) and Carlo Leone (D-Stamford) said in the release. The automatic monitoring provides continuous detection and reporting of dangerous heart arrhythmias directly to the patient and their doctor, the release said.

“The money lets us hire the critical people we need to take our technology from a prototype to a patient friendly device that can detect and classify arrhythmias while people go about their daily lives,” Justin Chickles, CEO and cofounder of Mobile Sense Technologies, said in a statement. “Wearing an off-the-chest long term monitor is a new approach and enables going beyond 30 days to help identify the millions of patients with random onset arrhythmias who might not otherwise be detected.”
