Danbury microchip-components maker ATMI Inc. restored fourth-quarter earnings to black on higher revenue.
For three months ended Dec. 31, ATMI netted $12.6 million, or 39 cents a diluted share. That compares with a loss of $47.2 million, or $1.49 a share, the same period in 2011.
The year-earlier loss reflected an $84.6 million pre-tax charge stemming from retaking control of global distribution of its proprietary technology from a former Japanese partner.
Fourth-quarter revenues rose 11 percent to $100.1 million vs. $90.3 million a year ago.
For the year, ATMI netted $42.3 million, or $1.30 a share, vs. a year-earlier loss of $20 million, or 63 cents a share.
Full-year revenues were $407.4 million in 2012 vs. $390.1 million in 2011.
ATMI’s photolithography technology and equipment is used to overlay microcircuitry onto silicon wafers.
