Danbury’s Henry Abbott Technical High School won $20,000 in Connecticut Light & Power’s Live Green-Win Green competition for planning a garden to supply food to the school.
The school received the grant to fund future environmental improvements at the school. Three runner-up schools – Gilbert School in Winsted, Rockville High School in Vernon and Terryville High School in Plymouth – received $5,000.
The Abbott Tech entry featured a video and essay proposal to build a garden supplying vegetables to its Culinary Arts Department, cafeteria and on-campus restaurant.
CL&P said the judges were particularly impressed with their use of computer animation in the proposal video.
The Live Green-Win Green competition was open to all high schools in CL&P’s service area and encouraged students to develop projects to help their schools be more environmentally beneficial. The entries were judged by Connecticut educators and environmental leaders.
