Danbury mayor eyes gubernatorial run

Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton is exploring a run for Connecticut governor, the Associated Press reports.

Boughton, 49, who was the Republican nominee for lieutenant governor in 2010, announced at a news conference today that he has formed an exploratory committee and will spend several months “testing the water,” the AP said.

Boughton, a former state representative, has been Danbury’s mayor for 12 years and is up for re-election in November.

If Boughton decides to run, he could face fellow Republican and Senate Minority Leader John McKinney, who announced his gubernatorial bid in July, in the primary election.
