A Danbury business owner was arrested on Tuesday after authorities say he failed to carry required workers’ compensation insurance coverage for his workers.
Rahamat Hydar, 55, who owns Meagan’s Auto, also known as Meagan’s Auto, Truck & Equipment Specialist LLC, was charged with criminal liability and noncompliance with insurance requirements.
The arrest was made by inspectors from the Workers’ Compensation Fraud Control Unit in the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney.
During the investigation, authorities say they determined that Hydar previously maintained workers’ compensation insurance policies that were canceled and renewed multiple times for either nonpayment of the premium, a failure to comply with terms and conditions, or the result of a failed audit.
The investigation also found that the business did not have a workers’ compensation insurance policy in effect in November 2023 when an employee was in a work-related accident while assisting a customer at a tow scene, authorities said.
Hydar was released on a $10,000 non-surety bond and is set to appear in Danbury Superior Court on April 2.
Connecticut state law requires businesses to either carry workers’ compensation insurance or demonstrate their solvency and financial ability to compensate injured employees or beneficiaries.
