Most people might become discouraged by an 18-month stretch of unemployment, but Ursula Daiber is not one to let challenges diminish her outlook. She has overcome Stage III rectal cancer as well as divorce and is now public relations and communications manager for Connecticut Community Care Inc. in Bristol.
CCCI provides care management services to older individuals and other persons with similar chronic care needs and their caregivers, to assist them in remaining as independent as possible in the most cost-effective manner.
“The timing was right for me. I’d like to get the word out,” Daiber said. “CCCI is an incredible organization. I’m very excited to be here.”
Daiber admits that she did not know a lot about CCCI until she interviewed for the position. (Originally, she applied for a marketing position but was hired for the communications role when it was determined to be a better fit.)
She then discovered the organization had helped a lot of people in her life. “I didn’t know much about the impact CCCI has in Connecticut,” she added.
Daiber brings corporate and nonprofit skills to her new role. She had most recently worked for Kuehne & Nagel in Naugatuck as a communications specialist. “I should thank Kuehne & Nagel for letting me out of my position a year-and-a-half ago,” she said.
The 18 months gave her the time to work on her life-coaching business. It also afforded her the time to get involved in a lot of cancer-related charities. (She is cancer free six years after being diagnosed at the age of 33.)
The time also helped her decide where she could have the most impact with her professional skills. In her free time, Daiber is busy as a single mother raising her 8-year old son. “He is fantastic. He is a good kid,” she said.
Daiber also uses her skill as a life coach and communications specialist to help local cancer charities. She is president of the Waterbury Area Ostomy Support Group and is involved with the Harold Leever Regional Cancer Center in Waterbury. In addition, Daiber volunteers for the American Cancer Society, Relay for Life, and for the ACS Litchfield Hills Gala.
