Some people just seem to be born under a lucky star. Case in point would be Brian Czajkowski. He gets laid off from his previous job at Visual Concepts Media as senior account manager.
During his search for new work, he takes a break to attend a Wednesday practice round at golf’s U.S. Open at Bethpage Black in New York. Other guys attending the tournament later in the week deal with torrential downpours — Czajkowski enjoys a beautiful sunny day.
The lucky streak extends itself while he’s at the golf tournament and his cell phone is locked safely away in his car back in the parking lot. He’s left a voicemail offering him the position of business development manager with ForeSite, a Website design and IT support company in East Hartford. Czajkowski doesn’t get the message until almost midnight, but, of course, the job is still eagerly awaiting him the next morning when he returns the call.
Of course, Cjazkowski, 36, knows his success isn’t all attributable to luck. He has spent years developing a career that included time at Moving Pictures Video and Film in Middletown and working for WFSB in Hartford as news edit manager. At Visual Concepts Media, he was the lead business development person before being laid off prior to the company closing its doors.
He used a prior relationship with ForeSite to network for new employment. “When the time came, I quickly developed a short list of who I wanted to work for,” he said, adding that the book of business he had nourished over the years would be attractive. “ForeSite was at the top of that list.”
The married father of two girls, ages 4 and 1, isn’t desk bound. Czajkowski enjoys an active outdoor life with a particular emphasis on snowboarding in the winter for the past seven years. Initially, before the children arrived, he would go as often as 15 times a season. That numbered has dwindled, as well as the opportunities to go snowboarding. “We have to go once a year or we lose our man card,” said the affable Czajkowski.
