Cytec profits jump 22 percent on broad revenue growth

Chemical manufacturer Cytec, which has operations in Wallingford, said its third-quarter profits increased by $9.8 million, thanks to revenue boosts across its various segments.

Cytec booked $53.6 million in profits, or 74 cents per share, up from $43.8 million, or 61 cents, a year ago.

Net sales climbed 9 percent, to $53.6 million. The company’s process separation division led the growth, adding $17 million over the year, which CEO Shane Fleming attributed to growth in the company’s mining sector and phosphine sales. Aerospace materials and industrial materials also added a combined $24.3 million.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency identified Cytec in 2011 as the state’s top polluter.

Cytec makes chemicals for coatings, such as the coatings lining the interior of beer and soda cans, and stains for wood and outdoor decks.
