Members of the CWA Local 1298, the Communication Workers of America union, are set to rally on the north end steps of the Capitol building in Hartford tonight at 6 p.m.
Their purpose? To convince Gov. M. Jodi Rell to fight the state’s impending loss of jobs because AT&T is moving its Meriden call center operations out of state. According to a spokesperson for CWA 1298, AT&T’s move will mean the loss of several hundred jobs.
Now, the union hopes to persuade Gov. Rell to follow in the footsteps of the governor of Pennsylvania, who urged AT&T to keep its call center open in his state – and won. Â
