CWA members storm the Capitol

Members of the CWA Local 1298, the Communication Workers of America union, are set to rally on the north end steps of the Capitol building in Hartford tonight at 6 p.m.

Their purpose? To convince Gov. M. Jodi Rell to fight the state’s impending loss of jobs because AT&T is moving its Meriden call center operations out of state. According to a spokesperson for CWA 1298, AT&T’s move will mean the loss of several hundred jobs.

Now, the union hopes to persuade Gov. Rell to follow in the footsteps of the governor of Pennsylvania, who urged AT&T to keep its call center open in his state – and won.
