CVS Health, which recently acquired Hartford health insurer Aetna for $69 billion, has elevated Roshan Navagamuwa as executive vice president and chief information officer (CIO) of the combined company.
Navagamuwa, who started with the pharmacy giant in 2012, will be tasked with overseeing CVS’ technology and data integration with IT systems used by Aetna, the company said.
He’s been the interim CIO since Stephen Gold abruptly left CVS shortly after the company announced its plans to acquire Aetna in Dec. 2017.
Meg McCarthy, Aetna’s former CIO and CVS’ current executive vice president of operations and technology, will assist Navagamuwa during a transition period to streamline the company’s two IT organizations.
CVS has set a goal of cutting $750 million in overhead costs by merging its corporate expenses and existing assets under the combined company.
“The combined organization will play a critical role driving technology innovation as CVS Health delivers on its strategy to transform health care,” the company said in a statement.
Navagamuwa joined CVS as vice president in their IT segment supporting its government businesses, and then began serving as senior vice president of client services in 2016, the company said.
