CVS Health has told state and city officials it plans to eliminate 72 more jobs associated with its subsidiary Aetna Inc.’s Hartford office.
In a notice filed with the state Department of Labor under the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, CVS states that it will eliminate jobs for 72 remote workers in three states — Kentucky, Michigan and Ohio — who report to the Aetna Inc. facility at 151 Farmington Ave. in Hartford.
According to the notice, the layoffs are the result of CVS Health ending its Aetna Medicare Medicaid Program “due to the loss of the contract for 2026.”
In a statement emailed to Hartford Business Journal by CVS Health, the company stated that in November 2024, the Ohio Department of Medicaid notified it that Aetna was not selected for "a new contract to support beneficiaries dually eligible for Medicare and Medicaid through the state’s Next Generation MyCare Ohio Program. This notice includes roles that are impacted due to the loss of that contract."
The statement added that CVS Health is "committed to supporting these colleagues, who will receive severance pay and benefits, including access to outplacement services."
The layoffs are expected to be permanent and will occur between Dec. 31 this year and March 31 next year, the notice states.
According to a list included with the notice, 70 of the affected workers live in Ohio, with one each located in Kentucky and Michigan. None of the employees are union members.
“All of the affected employees work from home remotely outside of Connecticut but report into a leader located at the Facility and so are being included in this WARN notice out of an abundance of caution,” the notice states.
Of the affected employees, 44 are listed as nurse case managers, seven are associate managers for clinical health services, seven are care management associates, five are clinical case managers for behavioral health, four are case management analysts, three are social workers, one is a clinical team lead and one is a senior manager for clinical health services.
This is the second time this year that CVS Health has notified the state of layoffs affiliated with the Aetna facility in Hartford.
In April, it notified the state that it would lay off 55 employees in 20 states, including two in Connecticut, as a result of the closing of its Carefree insurance line of business.
