The Hartford Stage is raising the curtain on $4 million in improvements to the downtown theater in time to debut its first fall performance.
At 10 a.m. Thursday, Gov. M. Jodi Rell and Hartford Mayor Pedro Segarra will join Hartford Stage leaders and patrons and other dignitaries in reopening the 33-year-old Church Street facility.
The Phase I improvements, financed with a $2 million state economic development grant and the rest from private donors, include  a new roof, better lobby access for the disabled, updated restrooms and performance lighting, and Â
Mitchell Kurtz Architect PC designed the theater renovation and expansion. Bartlett Brainard Eacott of Bloomfield was the construction manager.
On Friday, Hartford Stage launches its first preview of Shakespeare’s Antony & Cleopatra, starring Kate Mulgrew and John Douglas Thompson.
