The Connecticut Department of Transportation is seeking new equipment to convert the fare payment system on its buses and vehicles to use touchless technology.
The new touchless system will use phones, smart cards, mobile ticketing, and secure barcode media instead of the old magnetic stripe swiping technology.
The system particularly will be used on the CTfastrak bus rapid transit system but will carry throughout all CTTransit fixed-route vehicles.
The request for proposals window closes on March 14.
