New Haven-based law firm Wiggin and Dana has absorbed a boutique trust and estate firm with four attorneys based in Boca Raton, Florida.
Wiggin and Dana’s addition of Ellis Law Group brings the total number of attorneys in its private client practice to 24, spread across offices in Connecticut, New York City and Florida.
Ellis Law Group specialized in setting up trusts and planning estates, as well as asset protection, wealth protection, business succession planning and general business counsel.
As Wiggin and Dana employees, they will have access to more resources, including attorneys in related practices, including litigation, corporate and emerging companies.
“As long-standing demographic trends continue to bind the Northeast with South Florida, we are investing in the relationship between these key growth markets,” said Tim Diemand, managing partner of Wiggin and Dana.
Diemand said that Wiggin and Dana had worked with Ellis Law Group for six years.
“This highly complementary team bolsters our ability to meet these clients’ needs for trust and estate counsel as well as address issues related to emerging companies, venture capital, corporate transactions and litigation,” he said.
Ellis Law Group was founded by Seth Ellis in 1999.
“Our high-net-worth clients are thinking more urgently about their estate planning ahead of the 2025 tax sunset,” Ellis said. “Amid this growing demand for private client services, Wiggin provides a bigger platform for us to serve those clients, offers a broader range of legal services and strengthens our ability to attract and retain young, vibrant attorneys.”
In addition to Ellis, former Ellis Law Group attorneys George Freund, Bill Bromley and Ashton Malkin have joined Wiggin and Dana.
Ellis is a partner, Freund and Bromley are counsel, and Malkin is an associate.
Wiggin and Dana is a full-service law firm with more than 160 attorneys. Its Connecticut offices are in New Haven, Stamford, Hartford, Greenwich, Westport and Madison.
