The University of St. Joseph’s School of Pharmacy, housed in downtown Hartford, has taken the first step toward obtaining full accreditation for its year-old pharmacy education-training program.
The West Hartford university says its pharmacy school received candidate status from the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE).
ACPE is the national agency for the accreditation of professional degree programs in pharmacy and providers of continuing pharmacy education.
Students in programs that are at candidate status have the same rights and privileges of those attending a fully-accredited program, the school said.
St. Joseph said it will be able to apply for full accreditation when the first class graduates in 2014. Located in the XL Center, the pharmacy school will welcome seat its second class of 80 students in August.
