West Hartford’s University of St. Joseph is linking up with one of Japan’s leading vocational colleges for women.
On Friday, USJ President Pamela Trotman Reid and Otsuma Women’s University President Koichi Oquie will sign ceremonial partnership papers at USJ’s Mercy Hall on its campus at 1678 Asylum Ave.
The schools say their partnership will promote academic and cultural exchanges between the two private schools in the fields of education, research and other activities.
The day’s ceremonial signing further expands USJ’s global footprint via education programs and partnerships.
Otsuma began in 1909 as a sewing school, then branched into women’s vocational training, and, opening a university in 1949 in the shadow of the emperor’s palace in Tokyo.
USJ also has a formal relationship with HAN University in The Netherlands and is about to sign an agreement with Sultan Qaboos University in Muscat, Oman, spokesman Tom Andrea said in an email.
In addition, in partnership with other U.S. institutions, USJ offers education programs in 28 countries or continents, Andrea said.
