CT’s Staples named NEASC chief

New Haven attorney and ex-state lawmaker Cameron C. Staples is the next chief executive officer of the New England Association of Schools & Colleges, effective July 1.

Staples, 53, succeeds retiring executive director/CEO Jacob Ludes III.

Staples, who lives in Essex, represented the 96th Assembly District that includes New Haven and Hamden from 1993 to until his unsuccessful 2010 Democratic bid for state attorney general. He is a partner with New Haven law firm Neubert, Pepe & Monteith.

Staples was among more 100 candidates nationwide for the NEASC post, said spokeswoman Nadia Alam.

Based in Bedford, Mass., NEASC is one of six regional accrediting agencies for most of the nation’s public and private schools and colleges recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

Staples has a B.A. from Weslayan University.  a master’s from University of Pennsylvania and a law degree from the University of Connecticut.
