CT’s Southern Air moving Midwest; shedding workers

Norwalk air cargo carrier Southern Air is moving headquarters to Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, a move that necessitates laying off 120 workers, published reports and filings say.

The New Haven Register reports that CEO Dan McHugh sent an email sent to employees last week, noting, “It has become apparent that a relocation of our headquarters is warranted for both strategic and financial reasons.”

Southern Air’s move to the region is expected to create at least 120 full-time jobs, reports say.

Southern Air notified Connecticut labor officials in a WARN filing that it will lay off 120 people in March, the Register reported. McHugh said in the email some employees would be offered jobs in Cincinnati.
