Fairfield’s Sacred Heart University ranked as the least affordable American college in Newsweek magazine’s annual survey, CTPost.com reports.
The cost to attend Sacred Heart is $50,500 per year. Its graduates leave with an median debt of $40,865, a median starting salary of $44,800 and at mid-career make $69,500, on average.
Sacred Heart officials insist the survey is flawed.
In contrast, at New Haven’s Yale University, which has a sticker price of $58,250, the average debt upon graduation is $9,254, the median starting salary is $50,700 and the mid-career median salary is $105,000. Newsweek ranked Yale the 14th most affordable college in the country.
The most afforable college, according to Newsweek’s rankings, is the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, with a tuition of $55,270, a median graduate debt of $15,228, a median starting salary of $69,700 and a mid-career median salary of $115,000.
