CT’s new-home sprouts strong in Aug.

New home construction stayed robust in August, with permits last month and the first eight months of this year strongly ahead of last year, state data shows.

Connecticut communities issued 416 new-housing permits in August, up from 359 the same month a year ago, the state Department of Economic Development said Friday.

From January through August, 2,451 permits were approved vs. 2,451 in the first eight months of 2012, DECD said.

Despite their strength, permits are still running less than a half 2004 pace of 6,570 permits granted from January-August of that year, DECD data shows.
