Connecticut’s economy added 7,900 jobs in June yet the growth in the number of unemployed residents pushed last month’s jobless rate to 5.8 percent, state labor authorities say.
Since June 2015, 17,900 jobs have been added – a pace of about 1,500 jobs a month, according to the state Labor Department’s analysis of payroll surveys from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
But in a one-month span from May to June, Connecticut added 2,300 to it jobless rolls, the state labor department said Thursday.
The state’s May unemployment rate was 5.7 percent. The rate was 5.5 percent in June 2015.
“Connecticut’s large swing in job growth from May to June mirrored a similar pattern nationally,” said Andy Condon, who directs the state labor agency’s research office. “While we can’t pinpoint an exact cause, it seems likely to be due to a change in seasonal pattern rather than an actual swing in labor markets.”
