CT’s Fitzgerald & Halliday enters NY, NJ markets

Hartford transportation/environmental consultant Fitzgerald & Halliday Inc. has established a New York City office with the acquisition of a Boston transportation consultant’s office there, authorities say.

Fitzgerald & Halliday paid an undisclosed sum for the office assets and retained the New York staff of Howard/Stein-Hudson Associates Inc., the firms said Friday. HSH opened the office in 1988.

Headquartered at 72 Cedar St., on downtown’s southern fringe, this is F&H’s first acquisition and is effective immediately, officials said. The company also added seven staffers from HSH’s Manhattan office, all of whom have community planning, civic engagement, and transportation planning and engineering skills.

The Hartford firm’s third office is in Cherry Hill, N.J.

“The opportunity to complement our strong reputation in New England and solidify our growing presence in the New York and New Jersey markets was one that we could not pass up,” F&H President Susan VanBenschoten said.

HSH President Tom Stokes said the sale allows the firm to focus more closely on clients in the Massachusetts and northern New England area.

Fitzgerald & Halliday, Inc. was founded in 1987 by Ruth Fitzgerald.
