Department-store chain J.W. Nordstrom Co. will open its first Connecticut off-price outlet, Nordstrom Rack, in the shadow of Westfarms mall on April 26, employing some 70 people, the Seattle retailer says.
The Rack will open at 9 a.m. in 35,000 square feet in the West Farm Shopping Center on New Britain Ave., which also houses retailers TJ Maxx and Sports Authority.
The off-price outlet also will be located within a quarter mile of Nordstrom’s only full-scale Connecticut department store at Westfarms.
Nordstrom first bared its Connecticut expansion plans last August, but until recently had not set a firm opening date.
Spokeswoman Kendall Ault said Nordstrom will draw upon the local workforce to staff its new store.
Job openings will be posted at Nordstrom.com/careers starting Feb. 1.
Nordstrom Racks serve as clearance outlets for Nordstrom’s department stores and Nordstrom.com, stocking deeply discounted designer apparel, shoes and accessories.
Nordstrom has 104 Rack outlets in the U.S., in addition to its 116 full-line department stores. Connecticut’s nearest Nordstrom Rack stores presently are in Massachusetts and New York.
