Governor M. Jodi Rell said Tuesday that former Connecticut Department of Insurance Commissioner Susan F. Cogswell died this morning.
She was 57-years-old.
Cogswell, who was most recently a member of the Torrington Board of Education, was the first female insurance commissioner in Connecticut.
She served in that position from 2000 until 2006, when she was replaced by current commissioner Thomas Sullivan.
The cause of her death was not disclosed, but officials say she was surrounded by family.
“Sue had a passion for public service,” Rell said in a written statement. “She was always looking for ways to give back to the community and ways to improve our quality of life. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends. We will all miss her very much.”
