CT’s final election turnout tally: 56%

Connecticut’s official voter turnout in the Nov. 4 general election was 56 percent, Secretary of the State Denise Merrill said Wednesday.

Merrill said just under 14,000 new voters cast ballots after registering on Election Day. It was the first statewide election using the new registration provision.

Hartford had the lowest turnout, at 32 percent. It’s unclear what impact polling-place problems that day might have had on turnout.

The city has launched an investigation into how and why voter registration lists were not delivered to polling places on time, which prohibited some people from voting and prompted a Superior Court judge to extend polling hours.
