Fairfield school- and office-supplies maker Acme United Corp. posted double-digit gains in second-quarter sales and profits from a head start on back-to-school sales and cash flow from its buyout of Bloomfield C-Thru Ruler Co.
For three months ended June 30, Acme United netted $2.1 million, or 66 cents a fully diluted share, up 18 percent from $1.7 million, or 56 cents a share, netted the same period a year earlier.
Second-quarter sales were $44.5 million vs. $38.4 million a year ago.
Acme’s pencil sharpeners, scissors, paper trimmer and first-aid kits, among other supplies, are sold in North America and abroad.
In June, it paid some $1.5 million for certain assets of C-Thru Ruler, including its drawing- and drafting-product lines.
