CT’s Bradley toasts with a martini bar

Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks is debuting a martini bar Thursday, part of itseffort to improve air passengers’ perception of Connecticut’s biggest airport.

Airport and state officials will host the grand opening of Traveltini Martini Bar at 5 p.m. on concourse C.

“We definitely want to enhance the airport experience for customers,” said Mary Ellen Jones, chairwoman of the Connecticut Airport Authority.

The martini bar comes as the airport looks to add amenities to entice more state and regional residents to use Bradley for their travel needs. In August, the airport opened the Cask & Barrel Bistro.

The airport is undergoing a larger makeover after the Connecticut Airport Authority assumed operations of the facility from the Department of Transportation last summer.

The CAA is working to bulk up the airport and its services through better marketing and more domestic and international nonstop flights to compete with regional competitors such as Boston’s Logan International and New York’s JFK International.

Bradley suffered a public relations hit in Oct. 29 when a snowstorm caused 29 airplanes to be rerouted to the Windsor Locks facility, which didn’t have adequate resources to deal with the demand in a timely fashion. Some of the planes sat on the tarmac for seven hours or more.
