Connecticut officials have hired a Kansas contractor to overhaul and modernize the state’s website, Gov. Dannel Malloy announced.
Connecticut Interactive LLC, a subsidiary of NIC Inc., will design and manage the new site, which will be optimized for mobile devices and be more interactive and user-friendly, officials said.
The three-year contract with NIC, which has renewal options, will be funded from fees levied on bulk purchasers of government information such as vehicle driver histories.
NIC, which manages websites for Maine, Rhode Island, Vermont and 26 other states, will open a Hartford office and expects to hire as many as a dozen employees.
Malloy said NIC will prioritize the creation of a portal that centralizes information on agencies that deal with Connecticut businesses.
The site may also allow users to interact with the state in new ways, such as submitting photos from a smartphone to document unsafe conditions.
The new site will be launched in stages this year.
