More than 5,000 workers at Connecticut companies received $6.1 million in the fiscal year ending June 30, the state’s Division of Wage & Workplace Standards Division announced.
The $6.1 million includes wages not paid; and overtime, minimum wage and prevailing wage standards not met. An additional $7,428 was paid to service workers hired by private contractors.
In addition to wage complaints, the division investigated 380 cases resulting in violations over personnel files, hours of labor, night work of minors, prohibited employment of minors, working papers/certificates of age, smoking in the workplace and meal periods.
The division issued 159 stop work orders to employers who did not comply with worker’s compensation requirements. In some of the cases, employers misclassified their employees as independent contractors.
