A 4 percent reduction in water rates took effect this week for Connecticut Water customers.
The rate reduction, which Connecticut Water said will save its 300,000 customers in 56 towns $12.4 million over the next two years, was approved by state regulators in September.
It was driven by a tax refund Connecticut Water enjoyed as a result of federal accounting rule changes that allow the utility to deduct capital investments in its plant. Connecticut Water previously said it expected the rate cut to total $10 million.
The utility has committed to keeping its rates level until at least April 2016, but noted that customers will see a water infrastructure and conservation adjustment charge on their bill starting in October.
