CT Water creates scam protection

The Connecticut Water Co. on Tuesday announced a new photo-validation policy designed to protect its customers against people attempting to illicitly enter their homes.

The company will email customers a photo of the Connecticut Water employee who will be arriving at the home for a scheduled appointment, making it easier to positively identify the employee before the customers opens the door.

The new policy is not in response to a specific incident, but there have been instances where homeowners were victimized by thieves impersonating utility workers to gain entry to a home. There were three such instances in December and earlier this year in Naugatuck (twice) and Clinton.
