Two Connecticut water utilities this week won final regulatory approvals Wednesday to increase surcharges on customers that help pay for pipe replacement and other infrastructure investments.
The Public Utilities Regulatory Authority approved Connecticut Water’s request to increase its so-called Water Infrastructure and Conservation Adjustment (WICA) surcharge from 5.1 percent to 7.1 percent, effective Oct. 1.
Meanwhile, PURA approved Aquarion’s request to increase its WICA surcharge from 1.9 percent to 2.2 percent, also effective Oct. 1.
PURA also greenlighted a combined 11 new WICA-eligible projects proposed by the two companies.
WICA was created by the legislature in 2007.
