Top Connecticut officials kick off a two-day promotional event Tuesday to market to out-of-state business leaders and real estate executives, hoping they will relocate operations to the state.
The 2010 Connecticut Champions Site Selector event will highlight the state’s recently passed jobs bill with more than $20 million in loans, financing programs and tax credits available for businesses, among other economic development incentives.
On Tuesday, Gov. M. Jodi Rell will host a luncheon for the delegation at the Governor’s Mansion in Hartford, stressing that the state is within an eight-hour drive of one-third of American consumers and two-thirds of Canadian consumers.
“Connecticut has long been recognized for having some of the finest workers in the world,” Rell said in a statement Monday. “Any business — whether its primary focus is manufacturing, financial services, biotechnology or aerospace — would welcome a work force of the caliber and quality of Connecticut’s.”
Rell pointed to the state’s previous success convincing organizations like NBC Universal, Blue Sky Studios, Starwood Hotels, Henkel, Swiss Army and Unilever to relocate or make sizable expansions in the state.
Highlights include taking business leaders on a tour of the new development zone at Bradley International Airport and Hartford’s Connecticut Science Center, as well as a visit to the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell.
