The state’s inland-waterway overseer will temporarily shut, starting Monday, its state-run boat launch on Morris’ Bantam Lake, in the state’s northwest corner, while new marina docks and enhanced anchoring systems are being installed, authorities say.
The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) said Tuesday the work will take about five days to complete and the launch is due to reopen Friday, May 3.
The launch is being closed for safety reasons since divers will be in the water installing the new anchoring system, DEEP spokesman Cyndy Chanaca said in an emailed statement Tuesday.
The contractor is Sterling Marine Inc. of Milford. The cost is $82,850, Chanaca said.
Meantime, DEEP urges boaters use nearby launches at: West Hill Pond, Barkhamsted; and Highland Lake and Winchester Lake, both in Winchester.
Bantam, named for the town village to which it is adjacent, is the state’s largest natural lake.
