The U.S. Department of Labor has awarded $2.6 million in grants for the Connecticut Department of Labor to upgrade its unemployment insurance computer system and continue fraud prevention.
The grant gives Connecticut the opportunity to join a multi-state partnership with Maine, Rhode Island and Mississippi to upgrade the mainframe systems with more online capabilities. The goal is to process claims more efficiently.
Of the $2.6 million, the fraud prevention program will receive $500,000.
Since that Chasing Cheaters program began in 2013 to find people who have made fraudulent unemployment claims, 110 people have been arrest and more than $900,000 in funds have been recovered.
