CT trends up with B+ rating for digital government

Connecticut’s state government is making better use of technology to deliver service and streamline operations, according to new rankings by the Center for Digital Government.

The 2016 Digital States Survey, which evaluates states’ use of technology to improve service delivery, increase capacity, streamline operations and reach policy goals, gave Connecticut a B+ ranking.

Twenty states earned a B+ or higher and no state got a D or an F, the survey found.

Connecticut’s improvements extend to cybersecurity protections, IT protections and criminal justice.

With the aid of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Cyber Hygiene program, the state reduced its estimated vulnerabilities from 960 in February 2016 to 370 in May. The state also launched a new tool to collect and analyze security events, and has upgraded its Intrusion Prevention and Detection System, the center reported.

In law enforcement, a multijurisdictional Criminal Information Sharing System enables workers to search “in a Google-like way” between three separate criminal databases as they investigate crimes, the center said.

Connecticut continued deployment of the enterprise Voice over IP telephone system and has partnered with Massachusetts to share its data center in Springfield, the survey found.
