CT to streamline licensing, college credit for veterans

Gov. Dannel Malloy’s office said he has ordered state agencies to streamline occupational licensing and college credit awarding for U.S. military veterans.

Under Malloy’s Executive Order No. 36, all state departments, boards and commissions that issue occupational certifications must review their procedures to takes relevant military education, skills and training into account when determining equivalency.

The state’s Board of Regents for Higher Education, which governs 18 universities and colleges, is also ordered to review of its policies and to issue recommendations that would simplify the process for veterans seeking to apply military education towards college credit.

The order builds on a directive issued last year by Malloy instructive executive branch hiring managers to consider veteran applicants.
