New England fisheries are set to benefit from $32.8 million in federal disaster funds that would help bolster reduced fish stocks and help fishing businesses that have been impacted, according to an announcement from Sen. Richard Blumenthal, Sen. Chris Murphy and Rep. Joe Courtney.
The funding is part of a total of $75 million in assistance from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to help fishing industries hurt by depleted stocks, Hurricane Sandy, flooding and other problems.
“This funding will help Connecticut’s fishermen get back on their feet after several years of reduced catch shares,” Murphy said in a statement.
