CT to receive $773K from $491M drug marketing settlement

Connecticut medical programs will receive $773,000 as the result of a $491-million settlement with a Pennsylvania drugmaker announced by the U.S. Justice Department.

The settlement is with Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, which was alleged to have knowingly marketed its kidney transplant drug Rapamune for other organ transplants, which were not covered by Medicaid, as well as promoted the drug’s sale and use in treatment regimens not approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

State Attorney General George Jepsen’s office announced that Connecticut’s Medical Assistance Program is eligible for a combined state and federal reimbursement of $645,168, of which $297,520 will go to the state. The state will also receive $127,778 for state-specific prescription drug programs administered by the Department of Social Services.
