CT to house VA Center of Excellence

The Connecticut veterans’ health system has qualified for $1 million annually to devise innovative training and tools for primary care physicians, nurses and other care providers.

The federal Department of Veterans Affairs Office of Academic Affiliations said the VA Connecticut Healthcare System is one of five sites chosen to establish a Center of Excellence (COE) in Primary Care Education program.

Each center will receive $1 million in funding a year over a five-year period, beginning in July with the first class of trainees at VA Connecticut’s Newington and West Haven campuses.

Connecticut’s COE, based at the West Haven campus, is a collaboration with Yale University’s Schools of Medicine and Nursing, the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and the Fairfield University School of Nursing.
