CT to award grants to help farmers diversify; focus on livestock processing, climate projects

Connecticut’s Department of Agriculture is offering grants for 2026 to help farmers diversify their operations.

The Farm Transition Grant program will prioritize projects that expand livestock processing capacity and promote climate-smart, sustainable agricultural practices.

Awards range from a $50,000 innovation and diversification grant, to a $5,000 new farmer microgrant. All require the applicant to seek 25% matching funds. There are also categories for infrastructure investment and research and development. The department has a total grant pool of $500,000 for next year’s program.

“Microgrants are propelling new entrepreneurs years ahead, giving them the tools to grow with confidence and purpose,” said Agriculture Commissioner Bryan P. Hurlburt. “At the same time, established farms are using these strategic investments to reinvest in operations, adopt new technologies, and meet the evolving demands of today’s consumers.”
