Seven technical high schools across the state are starting construction on solar energy projects on campus.
When completed, the projects, including rooftop and carport installations, will collectively deliver 4.6 megawatts of clean, renewable energy to the schools.
The projects will also incorporate a workforce development component, offering classroom and on-site learning opportunities for students.
The projects are a collaboration between the Connecticut Technical Education and Career System (CTECS), state Department of Administrative Services, Connecticut Green Bank and solar energy installer Verogy.
CTECS estimates it will save nearly $6 million in energy costs over the lifetime of the panels while reducing carbon emissions by the equivalent of approximately 2,290 metric tons annually.
The solar installations will be constructed at Howell Cheney Technical High School in Manchester, W.F. Kaynor in Waterbury, A.I. Prince in Hartford, Eli Whitney in Hamden, Emmett O’Brien in Ansonia, Henry Abbott in Danbury and H.H. Ellis in Danielson.
