Connecticut teachers made as much as 21 percent more money on average than their national counterparts in 2012, according to new data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Salaries in four of the state’s six metro areas were significantly higher than the national average. Middle school teachers in the state had the highest salary spread compared to national salaries at $68,190, a difference of $11,910.
Connecticut elementary school teachers earned an average of $67,070, 19.5 percent above the national median, while secondary school teachers made $67,370, 16.6 percent above average.
In the Greater Hartford area, elementary school teachers had the highest average salary of 67,350, 20 percent above the national median.
