Two business owners in Bridgeport and Bethlehem face civil penalties and jail time for allegedly failing to pay state sales taxes, authorities say.
Connecticut Department of Revenue Services agents arrested Isiah Sistrunk, 66, of Milford for operating his convenience store with a suspended sales tax permit. Sistrunk’s license to run his 123 Convenience Store on Park Avenue in Bridgeport was suspended in 2009 after he allegedly failed to resolve certain state tax liabilities, the agency said in a statement.
Sistrunk is free on a written promise to appear in the Bridgeport Superior Court on Feb. 11. He is charged with a class C misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $500, three months in prison, or both.
Meanwhile, state tax agents arrested Kenneth Boudreau, 38, of Bethlehem, last week. Boudreau, owner of KB Construction Services, faces 14 counts of failure to pay special fuels tax, eight counts of failure to file special fuels tax returns, five counts of failure to pay petroleum products gross earnings tax, and one count of failure to file a petroleum products gross earnings tax return, the revenue agency said.
He is free on $11,000 non-surety bond, and will appear in the Hartford Superior Court on Feb. 17.
Each count of failure to file a return and failure to pay tax is a class A misdemeanor punishable by up to a $1,000 fine, one year in prison, or both.
